Have you ever pulled an all nighter? I had my fair share of feverish kids and teenagers staying out late, which always
left me mentally drained and physically exhausted afterward.
This is why I find the disciples’ willingness to throw out their net one more time so fascinating. They didn’t even complain about it.
It’s not as though they had only been out there a few minutes or even a couple of hours. No. They had been out there all night long.
I would not have blamed them if they would have said, “We’re just too tired. We will try tomorrow.” Or, “Seriously, dude, we just dragged the net back on the boat, and there are no fish. Give us a break.”
But sometimes, even when we are tired, even when there are no fish in sight, even when the night has been long, we must be willing to throw out that net again.
We must keep praying,
We must keep reaching out.
We must keep at it.
We must we must we must because…
…“they couldn’t haul in the net because there were so many fish in it.”
PRAYER: Dear Lord, We know from reading scripture that our nets will overflow when we keep at it. Strengthen us and encourage us so we never give up. Particularly, there is this area of concern: _______________________. Pour out a blessing that is so huge that our nets will not be able to contain it. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
