Give God a Bull's Eye~

Yesterday we saw how God encourages us to be specific in our requests. While it would be easier to hastily blurt out a quick sentence, "Bless me, Amen," keep in mind that God welcomes a detailed, heartfelt request.

Look at it this way. He is our Father and desires a close relationship with us, His kids. When we are close to someone, we tell them everything. We spare no details, and we are confident they will keep the details of the conversation private. There is trust in the relationship, and clearly, these kind of relationships are few and far between. That is why we are blessed if we can have one or two close friends with whom we can share anything.

One of the things I always told Rayray when she was growing up was to be very careful with what information she shared with her buddies. One time there was a get together and a few of the teenyboppers started talking about this guy and the other one etc...and not surprisingly, most of the middle school had heard about these very private conversations by the next morning. The fallout was pretty ugly, but Rayray, in a moment of God-given clarity understood what it meant to "Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life." Proverbs 4:23.

I love the beauty in that verse and the wisdom in it as well. Our hearts must be guarded because our very lives depend on it. Nevertheless, it is safe to say that we can spill out every last little thing in our heart to the One Who died to save it. He is trustworthy, and He is worthy of our taking the time to develop a close relationship with Him. It starts by our offering Him our specific prayers.

Let us paint a big ol', unmistakable bull's eye today on the life of the one we want to see God's power touch by being specific. It will give God a clear target as well as take you deeper into a relationship with Him. It may even be you who needs a touch. Abraham's servant prayed for himself and you can too:)

PRAYER: (Fill in the Blanks)
Dear Lord, Today I want to direct Your attention to ________. I/He/She need(s) Your peace and guidance. Specifically, help ________ with _________. Come close to me as I learn how to share my innermost feelings with You. In Jesus' name, AMEN!
